The Reed Sweatt Family Tennis Center

Our facility has 11 indoor courts, including a lounge with court viewing, locker rooms with showers, vending machines, and racket stringing services.

Friday – Sunday • 7:00 am – 10:00 pm

Location / Parking

InnerCity Tennis’ offices and the Reed Sweatt Family Tennis Center are located in Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Park on the corner of 40th St and Nicollet Avenue in South Minneapolis. Free parking is available, but please allow extra time as the lot (entrance on 40th St) can fill up easily. Street parking is available on 40th St, 1st Ave, and Nicollet Ave, but please be mindful of parking restrictions.

Payment Methods

You can pay online using an e-check or credit card or in person with cash, paper checks, or payment cards.

Note: A 3% service charge is applied to all card payments.


Tennis Center Membership Information & Benefits

InnerCity Tennis has transitioned from the previous annual registration fee to a new membership structure. Memberships are now required to register for any program, class, or league and are designed to better align with the various ways players participate at our facility. The membership you choose must align with the programs you wish to participate in; without the correct membership, programs will appear unavailable for registration.

Membership Tier Options

Senior Membership
  • Pricing: $20.00 Annually
  • Description: For players 50 years and older.
  • Benefits: Register for senior-specific programs (Senior Drills, Senior Mixers), book recurring private lessons, and reserve courts up to 3 days in advance.
Junior Membership
  • Pricing: $20.00 Annually
  • Description: For youth players 18 years and under.
  • Benefits: Register for youth member-only programs (Cities Academy), book recurring private lessons, and reserve courts up to 3 days in advance.
Standard Membership
  • Pricing: $30.00 Monthly or $180.00 Annually
  • Description: For individual players.
  • Benefits: Reserve courts and register for drills at discounted member rates, access to ICT Leagues, and reserve courts up to 7 days in advance.
Standard Duo Membership
  • Pricing: $54.00 Monthly or $324.00 Annually
  • Description: For two players from the same household.
  • Benefits: Includes all Standard Membership benefits for two people, plus access to youth-specific programs like Cities Academy for players 18 and under. Reserve courts up to 7 days in advance.
Premium Membership
  • Pricing: $65.00 Monthly or $600.00 Annually
  • Description: For the dedicated individual player.
  • Benefits: All Standard Membership benefits, plus the ability to reserve courts and register for drills up to 14 days in advance. Includes a complimentary annual racket restringing, a 20% discount on pro shop services, and a reserved locker.
Premium Duo Membership
  • Pricing: $117.00 Monthly or $1,024.00 Annually
  • Description: For two dedicated players from the same household.
  • Benefits: All Premium Membership benefits for two people. Reserve courts and register for drills up to 14 days in advance, a complimentary annual racket restringing, a 20% discount on pro shop services, and a reserved locker.
Public Membership
  • Pricing: No Cost
  • Description: Free, Individual Membership. Automatically assigned upon account creation.
  • Benefits: Book courts up to 24 Hours in Advance (Walk on), Register for Youth Community Programs such as Cities Academy, Super Saturdays, and Summer Tennis in the Parks. Also register for Introductory Adult programs such as Step 1 + 2, and NTRP 2.5 Drills.

Reservation Types and Information

Guest/Walk On Court Bookings
Non-registered players may do same-day booking for court time and ball machine rental. No guest fee is required for same-day booking. Call the front desk at 612-825-6844 to inquire about court availability.

Parties/Special Events
All or part of the center can be rented for parties, tournaments, and other special tennis events. For more information and to schedule your event, please contact Chris Parker at 612-825-6844 or email info@innercitytennis.org.

Permanent Court Time (PCT) and Senior Court Time (SPCT) Reservations
InnerCity Tennis sells weekly permanent court time and senior court time for the Regular Season (Sept.-April). If you would like a PCT or SPCT for the current season, contact us at info@innercitytennis.org.

Note: Only daytime, Friday evening or Sunday morning slots are available for new PCT holders at this time. If you are interested in other options, we can put your group on a waiting list.

Ball Machine
$5 rental fee in addition to the court fee. Available Monday – Friday 7:00 am – 6:00 pm

Demo Rackets Available
Demo and loaner rackets are available for use while playing at Reed Sweatt for no cost. Players are asked to leave their driver’s license or car keys at the front desk while using rackets.

Pro Shop
For your convenience, InnerCity Tennis has a small pro shop that sells rackets, strings, shoes, socks, over grips and replacement grips.

Racket Services
Racket stringing: starting at $30 and up; $25 with your own string
24 hour turn around available for a rush fee of $5
Replacement grips $10; Overgrips $2

POLICIES AND GUIDELINES

General Policies

Our policies are designed to make everyone’s tennis experience enjoyable. Your cooperation is greatly appreciated.

  • Please check-in with the customer service desk staff each time you enter the center.
  • Please enter and leave the courts by using the time on our atomic clocks.
  • Vinyl curtains and netting around the perimeter of the court are out-of-play. For your safety, DO NOT run through them!
  • Smoking and alcohol are prohibited in the tennis center.
  • Food and beverages are not allowed on the courts.
  • Only tennis shoes are permitted on the courts. Black or other sole marking shoes are not allowed.
  • Only certified InnerCity Tennis professionals may provide private tennis instruction at the center.
  • Shirts must be worn at all times.
  • Tennis bags or warm-ups must be placed at the net post. Please do not leave them in the lobby area, alongside the court divider nets, or in the back court area.
  • Spectator viewing is permitted in the lobby area or on end-court bleachers only. Viewing from on a court or through the doorway window behind a court is permitted only with the express approval of all players (or a coach during lessons).
  • Parents and other adult bystanders are not permitted to speak to or take photographs or videos of players during on court lesson programming.
  • Children under the age of 15 must be accompanied by an adult unless participating in a junior program.
  • Pets are not allowed.
Refund & Cancellation Policies
  • Facility Closure: Account credit will be provided where applicable. Please view the FAQ section for your specific program for more details.
  • Cancellations: Customers are responsible for cancelled court reservations unless they are resold.
  • No Shows: Customers are responsible for all no-shows. No-show and court cancellation fees must be paid before additional reservations can be made.
  • Refunds: Group lesson reservations cancelled and unsold will not be refunded. Refunds will only be given if a student’s spot is resold to someone else. Unfortunately, we cannot provide make-up classes if a student misses due to illness or personal reasons.
  • Credit card refunds include a 5% refund fee.
  • Make-up classes are not permitted, and no refunds will be issued for missed classes.
  • Player account credits (e.g., provided based on facility closure) will remain usable for 12 months. After 12 months, credits are transitioned to a donation to InnerCity Tennis.

Acceptance of Risk

Every person who enters the property of InnerCity Tennis (ICT) and the Reed Sweatt Family Tennis Center should understand and accept that activities and the environment at the facility may present potential risks, both for active participants and visiting guests. In the event of a medical emergency, representatives of ICT may secure medical or dental treatment for any person in need, who accepts and assumes full responsibility for all costs relating to such treatment. Visitors are responsible for securing and tending to their belongings at all times. In the event of lost or stolen property, ICT will not be held responsible for any lost or stolen property. Visitors also authorize ICT to use photographs, videos, and any evaluations, surveys, or other records taken in and around the facility for any reasonable purpose. By entering ICT property, each visitor accepts all foreseen and unforeseen risks associated therein and agree for themselves, their heirs, executors or anyone else who may claim on their behalf, to hold ICT and ICT board members, organizers, staff and agents harmless against any claims arising from being present at the facility.

Tennis Etiquette

Please be considerate of other players. Do not walk onto your court until the designated time. To get to your court, walk behind blue backdrop curtains in the designated walkway. If your ball goes onto another court, please wait for their play to stop, then ask for your ball. Poor behavior (racket throwing) or bad language (swearing) will not be tolerated.

Weather Closings

Occasionally, InnerCity Tennis may close due to inclement weather. Please check our website homepage for updates on the facility closing if the possibility of severe weather exists.
